Cefadroxil is a cephalosporin antibiotic that functions by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins on the outer membrane of bacteria, inhibiting the enzyme activity of these proteins, which are responsible for cross-linking the amino acid chains in the cell wall. This action prevents the formation of an essential component of the bacterial cell wall, leading to the lysis of the bacterial cell wall and the death of the bacteria. It is active against some Gram-positive bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Staphylococcus aureus, as well as many Gram-negative bacteria such as Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, and Proteus mirabilis
